Westport made the long drive down to Kinvara to play St Colmans in the Galway U14 C Cup Final on Saturday 13th November.
Having captured the Mayo U14 Development League title some weeks ago, hopes were high for a competitive match. While the weather was miserable all the way down, the heavens decided to provide perfect playing conditions for the duration of the match.

Westport began the match determined to make their mark and that they did. From the first whistle they were very much in control of the game with the forwards receiving great ball from the half and midfield lines and they converted those passes into scores on many occasions.

The back lines worked very hard and ensured many opposition attacks didn’t end up in a score. St Colmans put up a spirited battle and never gave up. Sarah Gaughran, referee, ran a fair and flowing match.

The skills on display from both teams were fantastic and a credit to each player’s hard work and that of their coaches. It was a great match to watch and while the scoreline was heavily in Westport’s favour, it didn’t reflect the challenge and the work ethic that they faced in St Colmans.

A great end to a great season for this group of U14 players.
