Making the long trip to Ballymacward was no deterrent for our super Junior players who took on Ballinasloe in the Galway Junior B 12 A Side Cup Final.
This match promised to be an exciting fixture and it did not disappoint. It began with a blistering pace and by the first water break the teams were level with 2 points each. Ballinasloe are a strong team and weren’t going to give up possession easily.
Westport midfield and forward lines launched many attacks on the opposition goal during the first half and were rewarded with four more points before the half time break. Ballinasloe added 2 points to their tally.
The second half began and again the pace was fast. Ballinasloe were chasing every ball and there were many battles all around the pitch. Every Westport player worked so hard from the backs who were keeping the Ballinasloe scores out, to the midfield who were winning possession and feeding into the forward lines.
Westport added 4 more points to take their total to 10 at the second water break.
During the third quarter their scoring accuracy increased and very well controlled shots coming from outfield were converting into points on the board.
During the final quarter it was still all to play for and Ballinasloe were determined to leave their mark on this final. Another 4 points were added to the Westport scoreline in the final quarter and even when Ballinasloe did break through to score a goal towards the end of the game, Westport still looked in control and composed. A fantastic performance all round by each and every Westport player.
